Write Fiction In A Flash

Learn To Write Flash Fiction

Learn To Write Flash Fiction 〰️

Attention spans aren’t what they used to be. That’s why fiction is adapting.

How can you, as a writer, create interesting, moving, and prescient work that fits into the

attention span of the digital age?

Flash fiction is the answer.

Classified as a short story that is under 1000 words, flash fiction is a malleable, experimental form that has become all the rage in literary journals.

In this class we will examine the ultra short story and discover how concise language, and the use

of fragment in prose, can be used to create prescient, lively work.

This four-week course is just €200!

Course overview

Each week, the class will meet over Zoom to cover a different aspect of fiction writing. Here is what to expect week-to-week from the course.

Week 1: What is flash fiction ?

Learn some of the most popular “forms” of the short-short story (flash, “micro”, the parabolic, prose

poem, collage, etc.).

Week 2: Line and brevity

How does word choice propel simple sentences into the stratosphere, creating poetry in

prose (don’t tell the poets).

Week 3: Building stories

Learn how fragments and the use of collage can be used to create meaning from seemingly

disparate parts, and how traditional storytelling techniques can be modified for the short-short

form.

Week 4: Revise, revise, revise

This class will be an opportunity to further the discussion of the stories produced in this class in

small break out workshops.

What will be expected of you

This course will rely heavily on reading and practical exercises. We will discuss exemplary work,

sometimes line-by-line, so be prepared to have a close reading under your belt before coming

to class. You will also write your own experiments in concision and fragmented story which we will

discuss together on the Discord server.

Included with the course

  • Exemplary readings of the genre!

  • Writing prompts and take home exercises that will help you better understand the skills necessary for flash fiction, and help you generate stories of your own.

  • Access to the Honing House Discord channel (for life).

  • Class recordings that you can access any time.

  • 10% off a future course or a coaching session.

This class is suitable for writers at any level.

This online course will take place over Zoom every Tuesday evening from 19:00 to 21:00 CEST. The cost is €200 and the class is capped at 15 students.

Don’t hesitate to register!
